The Lone Survivor
The legend begins with a tragedy. A nomadic Turkish tribe was attacked by enemies, and everyone was killed except for one small boy. The enemies didn't kill him, but they left him in a marsh to die.
The Miracle in the Forest
Just as the boy was about to lose hope, a Blue-maned She-Wolf named Asena appeared. Instead of attacking him, she took pity on him. She fed him, cared for him, and protected him from his enemies.
As the boy grew older, Asena led him to a secret valley hidden deep within the Altay Mountains. This valley, called Ergenekon, was surrounded by high mountains and was invisible to the outside world. It was a paradise with green grass, fresh water, and safety.
The Birth of a New Nation
Asena and the young man had ten sons. These children grew up to be strong warriors and leaders. One of them, Ashina, became the leader of the clan. Over many generations, the tribe grew so large that the secret valley could no longer hold them.
The Melting of the Mountain
To leave the valley and reclaim their ancestors' lands, the Turks needed to find a way out. They discovered a part of the mountain made of iron ore. They built massive fires and used bellows to melt the iron. Finally, they created a path through the mountain.
Led by a grey wolf, the Turks marched out of Ergenekon back into the world as a powerful new nation. This is why the Wolf became the eternal symbol of Turkish freedom, guidance, and strength.
